1. Tell us about your process for creating a layout.
When I sit down to create a layout, I usually start with the paper I want to use. I’m a paper junkie and I’m always finding new collections that I just have to have. After I choose paper, I pull photos that match the paper and the event theme. Once I have my photos, I usually plan my design. I am a very organized scrapper and I almost always work from a sketch. I draw my sketches on notebook paper and I incorporate the embellishments I want to use in the design. If I don’t have enough time to create my own sketch, I keep a sketch folder on my computer where I can scan through sketches that others have created. I tend to mat my photos first, and I cut all of my papers to size so I can assemble my page to see if I like it before I commit to adhering anything. Once I like the paper layers, I adhere them and then I start adding embellishments. Generally, I do my title work and my journaling last. I never set time limits on how long it takes to make a page. If I don’t like the way a page is coming together, I set it to the side and work on something else until I come up with a new idea.
2. Can you share a time-saving tip with us?
I always have photos printed and ready to go so I can sit down and scrapbook when I have a few minutes. I’ve already mentioned using sketches that other people create. That’s always a huge time saver for me when I don’t have enough time to sketch one of my own.
3. What are your favorite/go-to products?
It’s so hard to choose favorite products. It’s like asking me to choose a favorite kid! I have to have great adhesive because I can’t stand if my stuff doesn’t stick. Right now, I’m loving the Glue Glider Pro Extreme Adhesive and American Crafts This To That Pop Dots. I love Bazzill Kraft paper for a great neutral background so much that I buy it in bulk. I do all of my journaling with American Crafts pens. My absolute favorite manufacturer right now is Studio Calico and my favorite kit club is Scraptastic Club.
